Paragliding training over Queenstown, NZ

Paragliding training over Queenstown, NZ

Paragliding is an interesting experience for those, who never tried launching off the ground and would like to learn more about thermals, lift and enjoy a lot of  air time. Flying different types of wings will help you understand more about the aerodynamics and profiles and maybe improve your canopy piloting skills on your skydiving or speedflying wing as well.

Not only for solo paragliding, but in order to legally speedfly around New Zealand, NZHGPA license with the PG2 paragliding rating is a must. This international rating is needed in more and more countries for speedflying, eventhough it is a completely different sport!

PG2 Paragliding Course

Fully certified intermediate PG2 pilot is allowed to fly without the oversight of an instructor. The knowledge and skills required for this rating are taught in the PG2 Paragliding Course, which includes ground school, lessons in ground handling and a minimum of 40+ flights total. The PG2 rating is recognised internationally.

How does the course work?

The first morning you will learn about the equipment and practice controlling the paraglider close to the ground. Expect bunny hops from a gentle slope. In the afternoon we go to a suitable site for the first major flights.

Successive days consist of multiple flights from launch sites suitable to the weather on the day. Expect about 30 flights, focusing initially on take off and landing skills. Once these skills are acquired we move on to ridge soaring and thermaling skills, allowing you to extend your flight times.

Combined with the flying, elements of theory will be taught. We conduct the theory lessons in a natural environment, discussing things as they occur, on the hill or in the landing paddock. There is also a necessary element of classroom theory. If you have the opportunity we recommend some pre course reading. "The Art of Paragliding" by Dennis Pagen is a particularly useful book.

How much time does it take?

We prefer you to do this course in a block of 10 days, as beginners generally learn easier this way, however if you have a problem getting the time off work you can split the course into stages.
